Children: I believe there are probably more children. His son James was born
1820 and then the next child Jane was b. 1830. Just one of the many mysteries
I have found while researching. Another possible child Nancy Copas (married to Thomas
Copas). She signed an affidavit that she was present at Abraham Gulley's birth. If she was another
child that would be two Nancy Gulley daughters??

           Felix and wife Mary age 12. The next time he appears is on the 1891 Voters List Clay Co TN. I have been
           unable to find him after that.

JAMES GULLEY (James T ¹) b. 1820 TN d. Feb 19 1859 Jackson Co TN In his wife's pension application she said he died on that date. Family legend says he was shot and killed. I found in the Tennessee Mortality Schedules

I find it very strange that they both died on the same day and month??

NOTE: After Jame's death in 1859 or 1860, Caroline and her children walked carrying their belongings from
Jackson County Tn to Southern Illinois. along the way the traded their gun for a mule for the smallest to ride on.
She was to meet up with her brother, however when she arrived, her brother had gone farther west.

In the Pension application of Abraham Gulley, for a pension for his brothers who were orphaned minors, are several
affidavits stating personal knowledge of Abraham's having been the son of Caroline. One was from Clay County, TN
on Feb 15 1878, made by Nancy Copas, who says she was present at his birth. The second is from Franklin Co Ill, made
by S J Hammons, and Daniel Gulley. Hammonds was the husband of Cynthia Jane Gulley, Nancy Gulley Copas I at first
believed to be a daughter of James T. However Nancy married Thomas Copas in abt 1846, and can't find anything definite. Also as a daughter of James T, that would mean that their were two daughters named Nancy????? Another
one of those Gulley Mysteries.
The pension papers also show that Ellis had the Gulley Bible that listed all the family births and deaths. There is also
an affadavit stating the death dates and locations for the youngest two John and James.
Also listed is the fact that the Jackson Co Courthouse burned in 1872 so there is no marriage license for James and Caroline.

           He is listed as being buried in Stones River, however he is in an unmarked grave.

           Note: Abraham was 20 when he enlisted with his brother Ellis, at Benton Illinois
           Aug 15 1862; at camp Anna, with the rank of Private. They were near Readyville, TN
           during the January cold of 1863, when both contracted measles and Abraham died.

Note: James and Elizabeth moved around a lot. He worked as a farmer, laborer, hotel keeper and blacksmith.
Marries Elizabeth 1853 Monroe Co KY. They are still there when the first daughter is born. They are not found in the 1860 census, but believed to be in TN about then. By the time he joins the Army Nov 1861 they are in KY again.
