JOHN ROBERT SELBY DIES NEAR LAREDO Had Lived in Grundy County Most Of His Life; Funeral Services To Be Sunday Afternoon At Laredo John Robert Selby, 87 years old, died at 3:30 this morning at his home three miles east of Laredo. He had been in failing health for the past year, and was in a serious condition for the last few days. He was born Aug 10 1875, a son of Tom and Minerva Bushong Selby, in the Forks of the River community northwest of Trenton. He married Lydia Ratliff Oct 10 1897 They lived in Grundy county until 1903 when they moved to Polk county. After eight years they moved to back to Grundy county in 1921. For six years before that time they owned and operated a general store in Dunlap. Mr Selby is survived by his wife, one son, Emmett, of the Forks of the River community, and one daughter, Mrs John Engleman of east of Laredo. One daughter died in infancy. He is also survived by five sisters, Mrs John Crawford of Humansville MO, Mrs Guy Burrell of Boseman Mont, Mrs Bert Jackson of Moeaqua ILL, Mrs Johnny Jackson of Springfield MO and Mrs. Ben Wilson of Wetser Idaho and four grandchildren. He was an active member of the Laredo Methodist Church and was a church board member for many years. Funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Laredo Methodist church. Burial will be in the Salem cemetery at the Forks of the River community. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SELBY FUNERAL RITES ARE HELD IN LAREDO Funeral services for John Robert Selby, who died Friday morning at his home east of Laredo, were held at one o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Laredo Methodist Church with the Rev J T Johnson officiating, assisted by the Rev J E Jackson. Pallbearers were Dan Pugh, Melford ???, Ira Cox, Victor Williams, Chap Coffman and Albia Snyder. Mrs J S Baldridge, Mrs Cora Coffman, Mrs Beulah Gallatin, Mrs Neva Henderson, Mrs Leo Swayze and Mrs Erma Smith were flower bearers. Mrs Stella Rensch, Mrs Floyd Perry, William Pixler and Arch Bruce san "Jesus Savior Pilot Me: and "Just Tommorrow" Mrs Jim Johnson sang "No Night There" accompanied by Mrs Victor Mecker at the piano. Burial was at the Salem cemetery in the Forks of the River community.
