From Montgomery News Messenger, March 3, 1943: Peter L. Cannaday, 86, died at his home here Sunday night at 11:30 o'clock, following a lingering illness. Mr. Cannaday had been an invalid for the past 20 years. He was a native of Floyd but resided in Montgomery county for over twenty-five years. Funeral services were conducted from the Park Methodist church yesterday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Interment was in Sunset cemetery. Mr. Cannaday was twice married. His first wife was the former Eliza Wilson and his second wife was the former Nannie Woolwine. Three daughters, Mrs. Viven Ingram, of Ferraun, Va., and Mrs. R.M. Thurman, of Wichita, Kansas, children of his first marriage, and one son, W.H. Cannaday, Christiansburg, child of his second marriage, are among the survivors. Twenty-three grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren also survive. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Kelly, of Floyd, and Mrs. Rhina Howely of Salem, and two brothers, James, of Floyd, and Other Cannaday, of Roanoke. Besides his widows, he was preceded in death by two sons, Tom and Wilton Cannaday. For many years, Mr. Cannaday had been a member of the Primitive Baptist church.
