W P Marrs Dies at Home in Spickard 83 year old retired farmer had lived in this county most of his life W P Marrs, retired farmer living in Spickard, died at 7:30 this morning at his home there after an illness lasting for several months. He had been critically ill during the last week. Death was caused by paralysis. Mr Marrs, who was 83 years old, was born in Virginia but came to Grundy county when he was a small child. He was raised to manhood in the county and spent almost his entire life as a farmer, owning a number of pieces of land around Spickard. About 10 years ago he gave up his farming and made his home in Spickard. After his wife died in 1914 he again married in 1918 to Viola Bailey of Trenton who survives him. Other survivors include two children, a daughter, Mrs Herbert Eads of Trenton, and a son, O L Marrs of Lodi Calif., as well as a number of grandchildren and other relatives. Another son, W T Marrs, died several years ago He was a member of the Methodist church in Spickard. Funeral arrangements had not been completed at noon today. Rites for W P Marrs are held at Spickard Funeral services for W P Marrs, 83, retired farmer of Spickard, who died Monday morning at his home there were held Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church at Spickard. A large crowd was present at the services, which were conducted by the pastor, Rev C T Farmer, who was assisted by the Rev M W Smeltzer, pastor of the United Brethren church. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of D G Dennis, Roy Ashbrook, George Alexander and Henry Selsor. Pallbearers were J B Wood, Floyd Callan, Alex Metcalf and Ray Taylor of Trenton and Gerald Tracy and Ramond Heck of Spickard. Flower bearers were Vivian and Doris Marrs and Mrs Garnett Marrs Carter. Burial was in the South Evans cemetery.
