Sterling Price Vestal Notes Sterling Price Vestal, seventy-eight years old, retired farmer and former deputy sheriff here, died last night at his home, 1023 1/2 Charles Street, after an illness of six weeks. Mr. Vestal was born in the southern part of Buchanan County on his grandfather's farm. He was the youngest of eight children. He later moved to Dearborn to operate a hotel there and in 1911 came to St. Joseph. He was deputy sheriff here under Jim Hall from 1896 to 1900 and was head of the county detention home for six years during the World War. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lydia C. Vestal; two sons, L. H. Vestal of St. Joseph and W. F. Vestal of Sheridan, Wyo; three daughters, Mrs. Pearl Edds and Mrs. Jewell Johnston both of St. Joseph and Mrs. J. A. Shifflett of St. Louis. He was a member of the Baptist Church. The body is at Fleeman's Funeral home. St. Joseph Gazette (MO) Tuesday October 22, 1940
